Tour Biarritz followed by Wine and Cheese Tasting

Biarrtiz's fame rose in 1854 when Napoleon III built a Palace on the beach for his wife the Empress Eugenie, which has now become the Hôtel du Palais. The British royal family regularly took vacations in Biarritz: European royalty such as Queen Victoria, Edward VII, and Alfonso XIII of Spain were frequent visitors.

Follow the history of this remarkable city from its humble beginnings through its glorious years as the summer residence of Europe's royal families, right up to today's modern resort with professional local tour guides,  who recount interesting, as well as amusing, anecdotes from Biarritz' colourful past.

The tour begins at the lighthouse of Biarritz, which offers a panoramic view of the entiere coast and the city, with a short walk down to the main beach in town, the Grande Plage, where surfers from around the world come to ride the waves. Next, discover the quaint fishing port which is, itself, a tiny village within the city of Biarritz. Follow the coastline to the Rock of the Madonna, a landmark in Biarritz, attainable only an intricate iron bridge  constructed by Gustave Eiffel. Continue towards the centre of town to the central food market. End the tour at the Biarritz Farmers' Market, a hub of activity overflowing with regional goods, and taste the local wine and cheeses. Possibility of including a gourmet lunch at Hötel du Palais, overlooking the sea.
